The first day of the battle turns into a bloodbath for both sides, as the Confederates take Grant's forces by surprise and push them back from their encampments, ultimately towards Pittsburg Landing itself. Discord: 🤍 Suffering numerous setbacks in the West, the Confederates from the newly-formed Army of Mississippi, led by the able General Albert Sidney Johnston, attempt a counter-strike against Major General Ulysses S. Grant's Army of the Tennessee while it is encamped at Pittsburg Landing on the Tennessee River. The fate of the Western Theater hangs in the balance. If Johnston's army can destroy Grant's forces before he is reinforced by the Army of the Ohio under Major General Don Carlos Buell, he can turn around the misfortunes in the West. However, if Johnston's army is defeated, there will be nothing stopping the Union from securing a firm control over the region. On the eve of battle, Johnston and his generals wait intensely for the bloodbath that will soon ensue around a small log cabin church known as Shiloh... A Union force known as the Army of the Tennessee (Major General Ulysses S. Grant) had moved via the Tennessee River deep into Tennessee and was encamped principally at Pittsburg Landing on the west bank of the Tennessee River, where the Confederate Army of Mississippi (General Albert Sidney Johnston, P. G. T. Beauregard second-in-command) launched a surprise attack on Grant's army from its base in Corinth, Mississippi. Johnston was mortally wounded during the fighting; Beauregard took command of the army and decided against pressing the attack late in the evening. Overnight, Grant was reinforced by one of his divisions stationed farther north and was joined by three divisions from the Army of the Ohio (Maj. Gen. Don Carlos Buell). The Union forces began an unexpected counterattack the next morning which reversed the Confederate gains of the previous day. On April 6, the first day of the battle, the Confederates struck with the intention of driving the Union defenders away from the river and into the swamps of Owl Creek to the west. Johnston hoped to defeat Grant's army before the anticipated arrival of Buell and the Army of the Ohio. The Confederate battle lines became confused during the fighting, and Grant's men instead fell back to the northeast, in the direction of Pittsburg Landing. A Union position on a slightly sunken road, nicknamed the "Hornet's Nest" and defended by the divisions of Brig. Gens. Benjamin Prentiss and William H. L. Wallace, provided time for the remainder of the Union line to stabilize under the protection of numerous artillery batteries. Wallace was mortally wounded when the position collapsed, while several regiments from the two divisions were eventually surrounded and surrendered. Johnston was shot in the leg and bled to death while leading an attack. Beauregard acknowledged how tired the army was from the day's exertions and decided against assaulting the final Union position that night. Tired but unfought and well-organized men from Buell's army and a division of Grant's army arrived in the evening of April 6 and helped turn the tide the next morning, when the Union commanders launched a counterattack along the entire line. Confederate forces were forced to retreat, ending their hopes of blocking the Union advance into northern Mississippi. Though victorious, the Union army had suffered heavier casualties than the Confederates, and Grant was heavily criticized in the media for being taken by surprise. The Battle of Shiloh was the bloodiest engagement of the Civil War to date, with nearly twice as many casualties as the previous major battles of the war combined.

Lee believes that his counter-offensive plan has not been uncovered, and so on Thursday, June 26th, 1862, begins his attack against the Union Army of the Potomac's right flank north of the Chickahominy River. Lee plans to use Stonewall Jackson's Command and A. P. Hill's Light Division to attack the forces of Major General Fitz John Porter's V Corps dug in along Beaver Dam Creek near Mechanicsville. However, much to Lee's frustration, most of his carefully-laid plans go awry from the start. Jackson's Command gets lost in its march towards Mechanicsville, and A. P. Hill is left waiting under artillery fire. By late afternoon, A. P. Hill impatiently launches his division against the entrenched Federals behind Beaver Dam Creek, leading to a bloody repulse that evening in the second of the Seven Days Battles. But the overcautious Halleck soon settles into a siege around Corinth, wishing to avoid repeating the bloodletting of Shiloh and thus allowing Confederate General P. G. T. Beauregard time to try and evacuate his forces from the Army of Mississippi out of Corinth before they are surrounded and destroyed. JOIN THE COMMUNITY! 🤍 SUPPORT THE CHANNEL! 🤍 On Monday, June 30th, 1862, Union forces from Major General McClellan's Army of the Potomac gather around the crossroads of Glendale, a key strategic position that the Confederates in General Lee's Army of Northern Virginia must seize if they are to cut off McClellan's retreat to the James River. To the north at 2:00 PM, at the Battle of White Oak Swamp, Confederate artillery batteries from Stonewall Jackson's Command duel with Union batteries across White Oak Swamp. Once the fighting around White Oak Swamp dies out around 4:00 PM, the much larger Battle of Glendale opens to the southwest between Confederates of Longstreet's and A. P. Hill's divisions and several Union divisions under George A. McCall, John Sedgwick, Philip Kearny, Joseph Hooker, Henry W. Slocum, and Israel B. Richardson. The fighting is a desperate, hand-to-hand affair, usually over control over Union cannons. Can McClellan succeed on the sixth of the Seven Days Battles in holding back the Confederates and maintaining control over Glendale and the crossroads that can provide his army's route of escape to the James? McClellan is finally ready to launch his ambitious offensive against Richmond with his Army of the Potomac through a movement up the Virginia Peninsula. This offensive, dubbed the "Peninsula Campaign", is the largest undertaken by the Federals at this time of the war, with over 100,000 troops involved in a movement from Washington to Fort Monroe referred to by a British observer as the "Stride of a Giant." However, a day into launching his offensive up the Peninsula from Fort Monroe, McClellan's campaign grinds to a halt as his forces settle into a siege around Yorktown - site of the famed Revolutionary War siege and British surrender over 80 years earlier. Facing McClellan's enormous army is Major General John B. Magruder's small Army of the Peninsula, steadily being reinforced by Confederate reinforcements streaming into the Yorktown trenches from General Joseph E. Johnston's Army of Northern Virginia. The other, less glamorous Siege of Yorktown has begun... Music from Flimstro: 🤍 Sources: To the Gates of Richmond: The Peninsula Campaign by Stephen W. Here, Confederate forces from Robert Toombs' Brigade of David R. Jones' Division launch a probing attack against the Union lines of Winfield Scott Hancock's 1st Brigade in Baldy Smith's Second Division, VI Corps. On orders from Major General John B. Magruder, Toombs' Brigade is to "feel the enemy" around Golding's Farm, but they are repulsed around sunset by Hancock's entrenched Federals. The next day, Saturday the 28th, sees Toombs' men try again to take the Union works. The little skirmish at Garnett's and Golding's Farm will prove to be the only notable action to occur on June 28th, 1862, as both Lee and McClellan begin resting and maneuvering their armies for much larger battles in the days to follow. For the advance on Memphis, the Union Navy plans on sending out Flag Officer Charles H. Davis' Western Flotilla to seize the city via the river itself. For this mission, the Western Flotilla is reinforced by a peculiar flotilla of repurposed civilian steamboat vessels led by Colonel Charles Ellet - the U.S. Ram Fleet. Meanwhile, the Confederate Navy's River Defense Fleet is moving towards Memphis to defend the strategically-vital river city, one of the last major strongholds on the upper Mississippi River. If Memphis falls to the Union, it will open the way for a Federal advance towards the city of Vicksburg in Mississippi. Lee has taken command of Confederate forces in and around Richmond following Joseph E. Johnston's wounding at the Battle of Seven Pines, and has begun to reorganize his divisions into the newly-relabeled "Army of Northern Virginia." Lee begins to formulate a strategic plan to counterattack Major General George B. McClellan's massive Union Army of the Potomac sitting outside Richmond, which is preparing to launch a siege of the Southern capital. However, before Lee can finalize his plans for his bold counterattack against the Federals, he needs to gather more intelligence on the Union right flank north of the Chickahominy River, where Lee intends to strike. Turning to his jubilant and flashy Cavalry Brigade commander, Brigadier General J. E. B. Stuart, Lee requests that Stuart take his cavalry regiments on a reconnaissance-in-force mission towards the Army of the Potomac's right flank along the Chickahominy. However, as Stuart's horsemen conduct their long ride, which starts on June 12th, he pushes the extent of his orders and conducts a full ride around McClellan's army. Stuart begins launching small-scale cavalry raids against Union supply bases and picket posts, gathering more intelligence on the Union army's positions as he travels with his troopers, eventually reaching the outskirts of the main Federal supply base on the Peninsula, White House Landing. The supply base is a tempting target for the Confederate horsemen. Will Stuart be able to complete his "Ride Around McClellan"? Or will the Federals figure out what the flashy cavalier is up to and stop him in his tracks? Music from Flimstro: 🤍 Sources: To the Gates of Richmond: The Peninsula Campaign by Stephen W. 🤍 Played by: Tsunao Airplane flying shooty game by SimpleTrac. Something about an alien force and some stuff about Red Mercury. Follow a pilot crew as they fight the aliens while getting the red stuff. Gameplay involves navigating the stages while taking out, say, turrets and stuff to try to find Red Mercury to advance. As for HOW to get it, you will never know. =P Gotta experiment a bit. Doesn't help that the game can be a bit unfair at times, where enemies will wear out your shields and you end up getting blown up. Speaking of: depending on the part that was damaged, it will end up crippling the aircraft, like taking frontal damage will mess up the radar while taking damage from the rear will mess up controls. Thankfully, you get about 3 lives to complete a stage. Still doesn't save it from being cheap. This longplay no-skills through the game on Veteran (medium difficulty). I should've put the game on Granny. I'm sure people would remember this game from a demo disc. :3 - Disclaimer: Most videos by World of Longplays use SaveStates!

He orders a Union Navy flotilla under Commander John Rodgers to steam up the James River and "blast Richmond into submission." However, as Rodgers' flotilla makes their way up the river, they encounter heavy resistance by Confederate troops and marines, who make a bold stand against the Federal flotilla from their defensive positions on Drewry's Bluff, located 15 miles south of Richmond. The next day, Friday, June 27th, sees the Confederates hurling themselves against the fortified Union positions of Brigadier General Fitz John Porter’s V Corps atop Turkey Hill close to the Chickahominy River in what will become known as the Battle of Gaines’ Mill. McClellan begins entrenching his army corps in preparation for a massive siege against Richmond. During this time, the Confederate defenders are not idle. General Robert E. Lee, having taken command of General Joseph E. Johnston's forces on June 2nd after the latter's wounding at Seven Pines, has reorganized his various commands and divisions into a new force he has branded the "Army of Northern Virginia." He plans to use his divisions in a grand gamble to counter-attack McClellan's army and drive it away from Richmond. The planned start date for Lee's attack is Thursday, June 26th. However, much to Lee's surprise McClellan suddenly launches a probing attack against Richmond's outer defensive works around Oak Grove west of Seven Pines on Wednesday, June 25th, 1862. The entire Second Battle of Bull Run Animated Battle Map On his way to invade the North for the first time, Robert E. Lee and the Army of Northern Virginia faced off with John Pope's Army of Virginia at the Second Battle of Manassas. On August 28, 1862, Rufus King's Division encountered Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson's Second Corps and that would begin the Second Battle of Bull Run. It would rage for two more days as Longstreet's Corps tried to link up with Jackson and Pope attempted to defeat Jackson before that junction could be made. Early on August 29, 1862, the Union Army of Virginia attempted to locate Stonewall Jackson's Corps. Major General Franz Sigel's Corps, along with divisions of other corps, would scour the woods north of Groveton to find the rebel commander. As the Union probed Jackson's lines, the Confederates fought off numerous attacks waiting for reinforcements under James Longstreet to arrive. Stonewall Jackson grew concerned about Longstreet's Wing of the Army of Northern Virginia and whether it would reach him in time to fend off the attacks leveled at Jackson's defensive line by General John Pope. On August 29, 1862, Pope sends repeated attacks against Jackson, but fails to dislodge him, although many times he came close. On the third day at the Second Battle of Manassas, Jackson must withstand another major attack by General Pope's Army of Virginia. General Longstreet will move his wing against Pope and crush him on part of the First Bull Run battlefield. #CivilWar #StonewallJackson #SecondBullRun #BattlefieldTrust #History #HaveHistoryWillTravel #HistoryChannel #Historynerd #Historygeek #HistoryCritique #historymemes #historyofart #historyinthemaking #historybuff #historylover #historylesson #historyfacts #historyinpictures #historymaker #historylovers #historyteacher #historymakers #historymeme #historytour #historymade #historytv18 #historymuseum 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍
